Social Media & You

So as many of you know by now, there are TONS of Social Media platforms out there for people to use. Some of which are meant for business and others are just meant for personal pleasure. Here I will try and explain which ones are the best for you and your purposes…

Can Social Media help me?

There are many different platforms that you can use to advertise yourself or your company now.  The best ones for personal info and finding friends online are Facebook, MySpace, and Twitter. Facebook is simply a place where you can go and see what your friends and family are up to. They do provide spaces for people to advertise, but I have found that people don’t get on Facebook to buy stuff or look for companies! In my opinion, Facebook ads are a waste of time and money! MySpace is very similar to Facebook in the sense that people just get on there to make new friends, not find business!  Twitter on the other hand is kind of the best of both worlds.  Here people can “Follow” who ever they want and find out what those people are up to.  Twitter also has many different business’s and companies on it for people to learn more about their products and what they are up to.  You can follow anyone or any company that you want, and find out what they are up to. These are the 3 main Social Media Platforms out there that people like to use.

There are also many other websites out there that are meant specifically for business!  Some of these that I like to use are as follows: Plaxo, LinkedIn, NewsVine, Technorati, EverNote, and a few others. I personally like to use Plaxo to find new businesses and people to work with online. Plaxo is mainly for business people. LinkedIn is also a great way to get yourself or your business out there for people to discover! On LinkedIn you provide your resume, previous jobs, companies, etc. These are just a few of the hundreds of platforms out there for you to use with your business!

There are also many different blogging platforms out there for people to start their own blogs for free! Some of these are WordPress, Blogger, Tumblr, Posterous, and a few others. When I started to work online, I made my own blog on WordPress.com and also Blogger.com. Both of these are very easy to use and provide a great place for you to let people in on your lifes work! If you don’t know how to make your own website, and you want a place to tell people about yourself and what you do, Tumblr and these others are a great place to start!

These are just a few of the hundreds of Social Media Platforms out there for you to use! I hope I have helped to shed some light on which ones are the best for you and your purposes.
