I have been working with WordPress Websites for 2-3 years now, and can say without a doubt that Plugins are one of the “Must Have” items on your WordPress website! They can help you do everything from block spam comments (Akismet) to add the social networks you use on your homepage (Fixed Social Buttons)… and SO much more! Let me tell you about some of my favorites out there…

WP Shopp Plugin

Let’s say you have a business website, and you want to be able to sell things on your site. Then a plugin such as “WP Shopp“ would be great for you! This plugin allows you to add a Shopping Cart and Checkout Page to your website. It also makes adding your products to your site much easier and faster, saving you time and energy. It also allows people to pay for your products right from your site, which is something a lot of people are looking for.

Photo Gallery Plugin

On the other hand, if you want to show off your pictures or images, then the “NextGEN Gallery“ Plugin would be great for you! This amazing plugin allows you to show as many pictures as you want, on the posts or pages that you select. It also lets people enlarge them, to see your photos in better detail, with a “Cool Iris” effect… Meaning the picture will enlarge and black out the background, showing off your photos to the max! I have personally used this plugin for a couple different websites, and I’m a big fan. You can upload numerous photos at once, and they will automatically show up on the pages you select. This is one of my favorite plugins for showing off photos and pictures on your website.

Personal Blog Plugin

Now let’s say you have a personal blog, and you want it to be easy for people to “Share” and “ReTweet” your posts or pages… There are a couple ways you can do this. If you are new to WordPress, there are these things called “Short Codes“ which allow you to insert a small amount of code and the “ReTweet” button will show up in your post. I just recently learned about these and have been using them avidly ever since! It is the easiest way to insert the “Facebook Share” or “ReTweet” buttons on your blog.

If you don’t even want to try these Short Codes, there are a couple other options. The “Tweet MeMe“ plugin does the same thing without having to mess with code. You just install the plugin, adjust the settings, and your done. The “ReTweet” button will then show up on every post you do, and even the ones you’ve done in the past. If you want the “Facebook Share” button along side the “ReTweet” button, then you should look into the “Facebook Share Button“ plugin. This has the same setup as the Tweet MeMe plugin, only for Facebook. Just install, adjust the settings, and you will have a “Share” button on your blog posts. It is really that easy, and this is why I think Plugins are a MUST HAVE item for WordPress websites!

Final Thoughts…

If you have a WordPress website or blog, and you aren’t using Plugins, then you need to join the times! Plugins are a staple of WordPress sites now a days, and they will make your life a lot easier. Even if you think there isn’t a plugin for your problem, trust me when I say, THERE IS!! I am always finding new and exciting plugins that make doing tasks on your website SO much easier! Above I have talked about just a few of the ones I use, but there are so many more I couldn’t list here. Do some homework and find the one that will help you! You won’t regret it!

As technology has evolved, so has the way we see it! Computers these days are much more stable, small, and efficient! I personally use a MacBook Pro, and LOVE it! It is truly amazing how easy it is to create works of art, no matter what field you work in! Since I create and design websites, I use my Mac for that… And very efficiently I might add! Macintosh has mastered the art of the computer!

Which CMS is best for you?

Much like Macintosh has refined their computers over the years, to be the best they can, all the internet website platforms have done the same! There are 3 or 4 main players in the website game these days. They are: WordPress, Magento, Drupal, and Joomla. WordPress is probably the most popular out of these. With such companies as Playstation, CNN, and many other major companies using WordPress, it is easy to see why WP is so popular! They have revolutionized the way websites are run! Giving the website owner a “Dashboard” to login to and manage their website. In the Dashboard, you can do everything from inserting pictures into posts, to changing the featured pages on your homepage, and everything else in between! Even if you have NO prior website experience, you can run a WordPress website! I have personally seen people with NO CLUE be able to run their own websites! Without having to call a programmer every time they want to add a word on the site! (Which a lot of people actually do!) If you are looking to start a website or blog, and don’t want a big complicated process, you should definitely check out WordPress!

Magento eCommerce Solutions

If you need a more sophisticated website, where people can go and shop for your products, then Magento is the platform for you! Magento is specially made for eCommerce website, and is built with the shopping cart, wish list, and checkout all included for free! Magento also has a “Dashboard” where people can login and enter all of their inventory and prices, as well as customize their homepage and anything else they may want to change. It is a little more complicated than the WP Dashboard, but it has to be! Magento can handle a lot more info and content, as well as let people buy your products straight from your site! If you would like to see an example of a Magento website, check this site out… Damaged Goods Co. (Created by SLEEK) This is a simple layout and theme, but you can get the idea of what Magento can do for you.

The FREE Option…

If your still not sure which way to go with your website or blog, do your homework! If you don’t want to spend the money to start a website or blog (because you would have to buy the domain, hosting, etc), there are plenty of free options out there! WordPress offers a free alternative to creating a website as well. They just take the name of your blog and add .wordpress.com after it and POOF, you have a blog with a custom domain! IE – caseycub418.wordpress.com There are also lots of other cool options such as Blogspot, Posterous, and Evernote. If your new to the internet and website game, you should probably start your own free blog first! The Dashboards on the free platforms are very similar to the real thing. You can get used to your new blog or site, and then when your ready, you can create the real thing and cash in!

I hope this has helped to shed some light on the different website platforms out there. I have been working with them for a couple years now, and would love to help any of you with your first blog or website! You can Get in Touch, or shoot me an email, and I will get back to you as soon as I can. Thanks for checking out CaseyHunsaker.com!

Until next time,

Are you sick of looking at the same old icons in the Dock and Finder of your Mac?? I know I was! So I did some research to find out how I could make my dock look more unique and personal… What I found was surprising! Turns out, it is very easy to change the Icons, for your Apps and Folders, to whatever you want! Let me show you how I did it, without buying expensive Apps and tools! (Above)

If this video doesn’t make sense to you, and you want an even easier way to change your icons, check out the Mac App called Candybar. This App allows you to change EVERYTHING on your Mac… You can make all your folders black with white images on the front, or you can use a Mario Icon for your Internet browser… You can even change what the removable drives look like on your desktop, when you plug them in… You can customize your Mac to be more personal than you ever imagined!

Above you can see the Candybar App Window, when it’s open. From this window, you can drag and drop your icons into the places you want them to be! Whether you want some cooler folders in your Finder, or you are sick of looking at the same old dock icons all the time, Candybar can help you customize your Mac very easily! The only down fall of this cool app is the fact that it costs about 30 bucks to get ALL the features. You can download the free trial, and see what you think for 30 days. After that you either buy it, or get rid of it. For me, I LOVED what Candybar allowed me to do, so I bought it and haven’t looked back! I think that once you download the free trial, and see how fun and easy it is to customize you computer, you will buy it too!

If you have any questions or comments about my video, or the article, you can Contact Me. Thanks for checking out my site!

Everyone likes to bookmark websites for future reference. Have you ever thought about why anyone would bookmark your website? Everyone wants more traffic and readers to their website or blog. How should you go about getting that traffic? Well there are a bunch of different way you can do it, but only a few good ones! The best way to get more traffic is to have quality content, and keep your readers interested in what your writing about!

Why do you bookmark?

Most people bookmark websites because they visit those sites a lot. Other times you will bookmark a site because it has really good info or content. Maybe you bookmark a site because you know it will help you in the future. There are lots of reasons, but why would someone bookmark YOUR site? It is one thing to get people to your site once, it is quite another to get them to read your posts and come back for more in the future. That is the key to website success! If you can get people to come back again and again to your site, your set!

How do I get repeat visitors?

The best way to get people to come back is to have interesting info, whether that is about grass or airplanes. You just have to find something, anything, your passionate about and then show that through your website posts and pages! If your writing about something you don’t care about, neither will your readers! People like real, authentic emotions and stories! The best way to show this emotion through your posts is to write about your passions and favorite things in life! That way, every time you write a post on your blog or website, it is a joy! And your readers will see that! Trust me!

In Conclusion…

Whether your someone who has a bunch of different websites, or someone who just writes for a few around the web, you should really think about your posts! If what your writing about doesn’t excite you, it certainly won’t excite your readers! If you show that you love what your writing about, people will see that and come back for more! I have come across a lot of websites that are just kinda there. No cool stories, no quality info, no pics, nothing! Don’t make your site like that! The whole reason you bookmark websites is because you LIKE them! Think about whether or not you would “Like” YOUR website or blog next time you post. I hope you have learned something from this post. Quality, authentic, and passionate content is the way to go with your website or blog!
